Habits of a Peace Maker is a MUST READ

To start with, you need to go into this book with an open mind. You should be ready to look inward and reflect. If you are able to approach this read with that mindset, you will get the tools to build a stronger community around you. If enough of us were able to be open and build, we would have the possibility to be that much closer to changing the world.

Each person will obviously be reading this book through a different lens and Steven T. Collis takes that into account. He uses various examples that a majority of people can relate to in some way. He also brings up the point that some people will not be open to his book or the concepts he introduces. He does talk about how to deal with or address that situation. The habits that he proposes are universal and can be implemented no matter your profession, religion, political leaning, or any other variation you can think of.

Personally, I was able to identify my strengths, weaknesses, and “meh”s when it comes to my conversations, discussions, and overall interactions. First and foremost, I want to improve my deeper learning. I’m starting off by diving deeper into my Bible and understanding the truth. I want to take this view into discussion on issues and hope I can be more like Jesus when speaking and listening. With that foundation, I need to get news from various viewpoints and sources. Honestly, I stay away from news in general because of the polarization but that doesn’t help for change. Let’s figure out a way to defy the algorithm and make real change!

Most importantly, it reminded me of one of my 2025 resolutions. I want to rebuild a real life, face to face, community. I want to get out (and influence others to get out) from behind the screens and get to know and understand real people. I want to connect with the actual person, not the person behind the keyboard. Technology and social media both have their places, but I want to put real people and connection above devices.

Habits of a Peace Maker can help you to make your small community a better place. Everyone has a circle of influence and being a peace maker can make that influence positive and productive, rather than negative and defeating. If enough people can change the dialogue in their small communities, we could be that much closer to making real change. In total, this book dives into 10 important habits that all gave me ways I can improve. Habits of a Peace Maker by Steven T. Collis should be added to your reading list and get ready to change the world with me!
